Single Mom in Mobile Area Finds Hope with Hardest Hit Alabama
First came Winifred W. Cannon's divorce. "I contacted my mortgage company to inform them that my financial situation was at best dire, but was placed on a vicious cycle of faxing papers and denials for a modification," she said.
Followed by illness and job loss. "I was stunned at being laid off, but even more stunned when I contacted my mortgage company and found that because I was unemployed, they would not be able to assist me at all," said Winifred.
Then, she found Hardest Hit Alabama. "I contacted your program and within a matter of weeks was approved. I was then able to focus 100 percent of my efforts on finding employment and not worrying about where my five children and I were going to lay our heads," she said.
HHA made Winifred's monthly mortgage payment while she was unemployed and for 2 additional months after she returned to work in February 2013—easing one burden for the single mom.
"Words cannot express my gratitude," she said. "In a time when I could not see my way for the tears in my eyes, you held my hand and guided me through this process. Everyone I spoke with was exceptionally nice, informative and patient. I have never experienced that kind of A1 service ever."
